GSML becomes third largest yarn producer in India

Garden Silk Mills Ltd (GSML), based at Surat, India begins commercial production of partially oriented yarn (POY) and chips through its new continuous polymerisation facility.

The facility has the highest output capacity in India. The company expects turnover of ever two-fold with the commissioning of the plant.

A company official informed that the commercial production from the facility began from Monday. The plant has a output capacity of 600 tons per day (TPD) polyester filament grade chips, known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and 145 TPD partially oriented yarn.

He explained that the current annual turnover of the company is Rs. 600 crore, which is now anticipated to reach Rs. 1,300-1,400 crore in the next year. The company also intends to raise yarn texturising output that would help to merge its position and further expand the yarn business.

Out of the total output of 600 TPD polyester filament grade chips, nearly 270 TPD would be utilised by company, and the rest of the output would be sold in the open market, he added.

With the establishment of the new facility, the company's partially oriented yarn producing capacity has rise from 65,000 tons per annum (TPA) to 1.15 lakh TPA. The company is now become the third largest yarn producer in the country after Reliance and Indorama.

The facility has been developed with the support of the USA-based Chemtex and Germany-based Barmag, at an investment of Rs 300 crore.

Chemtex supported the technological support for the manufacturing of the chips, while Barmag supplied the equipment for manufacturing of POY.
