The project also incorporates upgraded equipment located onsite and builds on other infrastructure already in place. Furthermore, the new resin facility is integrated with DAK Americas' TPA production plant onsite, which will directly supply the primary raw materials required for PET resin production.
The new Laser+ PET Resin facility will maximize the economies of scale for the site. The new facility represents an addition to the continuing Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) and TPA production units currently operating on-site.
In addition to the Cape Fear site, DAK Americas has two of the world's largest fully-operational single stream PET facilities; one line at its Cedar Creek Site in Fayetteville, N.C. and the second at its Cooper River Site near Charleston, S.C. Together, these lines have a total resin production capacity of 660 million pounds annually.
With the additional 450 million pound capacity coming on-stream, DAK Americas is well positioned to keep pace with the burgeoning PET market in North America, which is growing by over 6 percent each year.
On Monday, September 17, 2007; DAK Americas' parent company Alfa S.A.B. de C.V. announced the signature of definitive agreement to acquire the PET Polymers business in Argentina and Mexico from Eastman Chemical Company.
The acquisition of these PET resins manufacturing facilities, estimated to be completed in 4Q-2007, represents additional capacity of 330 million pounds/per year and 407 million pounds/per year, respectively. When combined with DAK Americas current U.S. PET resin capacity, the company's total annual capacity in the Americas will top 1.8 billion pounds per year.
