The Lenzing AG supervisory board gave the go-ahead for the expansion of the fiber production plant at Heiligenkreuz (Burgenland) at its meeting.
This site has been producing TENCEL fibers from the raw material pulp with a trendsetting and very ecological process for now ten years. The budget for investment of EUR 25 mill. will expand nominal capacity from currently 40,000 tons to almost 50,000 tons annually.
The project will be concluded within the next business year. It essentially expands the second production line by two spinning lines, utilizing existing buildings and infrastructure.
The reason for the decision is the unbroken and strong demand for TENCEL in the international fiber market. The fiber has recently been very successful in the home textile sector and is used to blend high quality cotton fabrics in the clothing sector. It is very much in demand in the nonwovens industry.
Lenzing is the only producer of TENCEL fibers on a large industrial scale globally. The Group's other TENCEL production sites are Grimsby (Great Britain) and Mobile (Alabama/USA). The total nominal production capacity for TENCEL fibers is 130,000 tons annually.
