Wiesbaden based Linde AG announced that due to increasing demand, the annual capacity of the plant, built by Linde in the early nineties, will be extended by about one third to 1,080,000 tons of ethylene and 650,000 tons of propylene.

Following expansion, the BASF plant in Antwerp, whose products are among the most important petrochemical raw materials, will be one of the biggest liquid crackers in the world.

"This high-profile project will secure Linde's position as leader in the field of ethylene plant engineering", explains Dr. Aldo Belloni, member of the Executive Board of Linde AG and responsible for the business segment Gas and Engineering.

The extension work, which includes the delivery of a new cracking furnace featuring state-of-the-art, propriety Linde technology, is to be completed by autumn 2007.

Linde AG, with around 41,000 employees worldwide, generates annual revenues of nearly 9 billion Euro, and is the largest builder of hydrogen production facilities in the world. The company equips virtually all existing liquid hydrogen filling stations, operates Germany's sole hydrogen liquefaction plant, and is a leader in hydrogen refueling technology.
