Further rise in turnover at Trevira

The manufacturer of polyester fibres from Bobingen/Germany is satisfied with business progress in 2007. Following a turnover of 329 million euros in 2006, Trevira anticipates a further rise to around 350 million for 2007. This good result was achieved despite the fire in production of staple fibres at the start of the year.

“The economy is running well and boosted demand in our core segments, to the extent we have been operating at full capacity for practically the whole year“, says Managing Director Hemant Sharma.

“In addition we have been able to increase volumes in high-value fibres and yarns, expanding further the proportion of specialties in the portfolio. This mainly affects our flame retardant and antimicrobial products, but applies, for instance, to bicomponent fibres as well.“ Automotive business also showed an upturn.

The company has continued to move on with the restructuring programme commenced some years ago. It was in October that Trevira announced it would be moving its Danish production of textured yarns to Poland over the next two to three years.

Growth in Trevira CS too:
The flame retardant fibres and filaments of Trevira also made good progress in 2007, with volumes and turnover in Trevira CS a good 10 per cent up on the previous year. In safety fibres for the contract sector, therefore, Trevira continues to build on its strong position in the face of the competition.

Globally the hotel market is still booming and in Europe, too, the current spurt in the economy has given a boost to investments, bringing the implementation of previously shelved projects. In addition, the expansion of the EU is creating fresh opportunities.
