Sears Canada Inc. has won the 2010 ENERGY STAR Retailer of the Year award for the third consecutive year - the fourth such win for the Company since the Award's inception in 2003. Sears Canada won the prestigious ENERGY STAR Award in 2003, 2008, 2009 and now 2010 - making it the only Canadian retailer to receive this honour four times.

"Sears is proud to be recognized with the ENERGY STAR Retailer of the Year Award for the third consecutive year and fourth time overall," said Dene Rogers, President and Chief Executive Officer, Sears Canada. "As a Company, we are committed to making it easy for Canadians to choose the most energy efficient solutions for their homes."

"Sears provides a one-stop shop approach to home improvements. For example, a customer wanting to reduce home energy expenses can obtain the full range of services and products from Sears: arrange for an energy audit, purchase and have installed high-efficiency products and improvements, use Sears deferred finance program, earn valuable Sears Club points, and Sears will prepare applicable government tax rebate forms. Sears customers then benefit from the energy savings and receive government energy rebates."

In order to qualify for the ENERGY STAR designation, products must be tested according to prescribed procedures and have been found to meet or exceed higher energy efficiency levels without compromising performance.

Sears recently developed its Cost and Carbon Savings Calculator which is available online to help customers to see the financial and environmental benefit of switching to ENERGY STAR qualified products and services.

ENERGY STAR-qualified products feature prominently in the weekly Sears flyers distributed to households across Canada. Sears educates its customers about the benefits of purchasing ENERGY STAR qualified products and services through its Live Green program, which provides Canadians with environmentally-friendly solutions in three categories: Renewable Resources, Use Less Power and Healthy Home. In 2010, Sears has collaborated with partners such as WWF-Canada as a national sponsor of Earth Hour, BC Hydro for the recent launch of the Cost and Carbon Savings Calculator and participates in events such as the Green Living Show in Toronto and the EPIC Sustainable Living Expo in Vancouver.

"This Award would not be possible without the hard work of thousands of associates across the country who purchase, promote and sell qualifying products in our retail and dealer stores, catalogue and online at sears.ca," continued Mr. Rogers. "I want to thank them for their commitment to improving the lives of Canadians by helping them save on energy costs and working towards a more sustainable future."

Sears Canada is a multi-channel retailer with a network of 197 corporate stores, 219 dealer stores, 31 home improvement showrooms, over 1,800 catalogue merchandise pick-up locations, 108 Sears Travel offices and a nationwide home maintenance, repair, and installation network.
