Failure of textile negotiations have probably led the Bush Administration to prompt a possible cap on imports synthetic filament threads made fabrics, bras and innerwear as a next step.

Commerce Deputy Assistant Secretary Jim Leonard said, "Today's announcement demonstrates this administration's commitment to leveling the playing field for U.S. industries by enforcing our trade agreements."

Meanwhile, extension of the until October 1, 2005 deadline has been announced for making deciding on four other products including sweaters, dressing gowns, knit fabric and wool trousers.

China may buckle under pressure and return to negotiate for a more broader agreement on clothing and textiles or risk further more categories put under import quotas at 7.5 percent annually, it is understood.
