Customs notification on monitoring of unscrupulous drawback accounts

The Office of the Commissioner of Customs, Air Cargo Customs Export, New Delhi has issued a Public notice for Exporters, Custom House agents and Trade.

PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 41/05

Monitoring of unscrupulous drawback accounts-regarding:

Attention of the Exporters, Custom House Agents and the Trade is invited to this office. Public Notice No. 25/2005 dated 16.05.2005, as amended by Public Notice No. 30/2005 dated 07.06.2005, where under it was decided that no cheque books shall be issued by the Punjab National Bank, New Custom House, New Delhi in respect of drawback accounts in order to avoid cash withdrawals from any of the CBS branches of the Punjab national Bank.

Now in order to sort out the difficulties being faced and representations made by the trade in this regard, it has been decided in consultation with the bank to introduce a new scheme of " Current account for drawback purpose". The salient features of the Scheme are as under:

* Drawback can be credited to these accounts
* Cheque Books can be issued in the accounts
* No CASH transaction will be permitted in the accounts
* Cheque Books can be issued only for the credit of accounts either through transfer or clearing mode only
* Account holders can request the bank for transfer of their existing account to this new Scheme

Though the accounts will be transferred to the new scheme, their account number will remain the same.

Trade is requested to circulate the contents of this Public Notice amongst all members and utilize this facility to the maximum extent.
