Continuous decline in Japan's cotton textile and apparel production has affected cotton yarn imports.
Statistics reveal cotton yarn imports last year, registered a significant decline of 9.4 percent, and the forecast this year is none too encouraging.
Figures for July 2005 show a 35.2 percent drop in imports of cotton yarns at a record low of 5,779 metric tons.
Cumulative import volume of cotton yarn and thread for January-July period reached 51,908 tons, a 7 percent drop compared to same period, last year.
Japan imported 17,947 metric tons from Pakistan as the country stood first among other countries like Indonesia (10,988), China (9,225), India (7,648) and Thailand (2,321) during January-July, this year.
