Textile, garment & accessory exports record a rising trend in May

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has recently released a report showing statistics of textile and apparel exports during the first five months 2008, which represents growth at all key markets.
The exports turnover fetched US $720 million in May to reach $3.29 billion during the period between January to May, representing a year–on-year surge of 19 percent.
Among all exporting markets, US remained the largest client, with total shipments worth $1.91 billion in the five month period, however, the figures show a slow grwoth trend.
In the meanwhile, the exports to EU and Japan witnessed strong growth.
On the other hand, the General Department of Customs reports depicts that apparel accessories exports turnover fetched $419 million in the first half 2008, posting 35.2 percent rise in comparison with similar period previous year.
The data shows that in the month of June alone, exports of products like bag, suitcase, umbrella, hat etc. generated $85 million, registering a boost of 13.3 percent over May this year.
