Recently the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT)released a statistical report showing that the textile and apparel industry of the country imported fabrics and fibres in huge quantities for domestic consumption.
The data shows that in the period from January to April, Vietnam imported fabrics worth US $1.34 billion. The country also purchased 143,092 tons of fibres of all categories, worth $272.032 million.
In these four months China emerged as the biggest trading partner, by supplying fabrics worth $433.3 million, followed by Korea for $280.22 million and Taiwan totaled $272.39 million.
For the fibre part, the biggest supplier remained Taiwan, shipped 64,491 tons worth $110.469 million during January to April period. Out of which, the figures of April alone are 16,273 tons, worth $28.20 million.
Other major suppliers for both fabrics and fibres include Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong and India.
