Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 7.59 per cent year-on-year to $1.587 billion during the six-month period ending December 31, 2019, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 12.08 per cent to $1.411 billion.

Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $15.331 million during the period under review, showing an increase of 9.06 per cent compared to exports of $14.058 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.

Cotton yarn exports decreased by 0.74 per cent to $544.378 million, as against exports of $548.425 million made during first six months of fiscal 2018-19. Exports of cotton fabric too decreased by 3.70 per cent and were valued at $1.013 billion during the first six months of fiscal 2019-20, while bedwear exports increased by 3.16 per cent to $1.197 billion, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were down 22.18 per cent to $24.502 million and imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn were down by 9.74 per cent to $272.798 million year-on-year. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan decreased by 8.34 per cent year-on-year to $231.947 million during the period under review.

In fiscal 2018-19 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 1.42 per cent to $13.329 billion over $13.520 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
