Sixty goods trains that earlier used the passenger rail routes on this section have been shifted to the freight corridor. The total project cost of this section is nearly ₹3,184 crore.
The prime minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth around ₹5,800 crore in Mehsana, Gujarat. These include projects in railways, roads and irrigation.
The districts around Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mahisagar, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will benefit from these projects, Modi said.
The projects will further improve connectivity and benefit the farmers in the region, he was quoted as saying in an official release.
The connectivity of north Gujarat with major ports like Pipavav, Porbandar and Jamnagar will be further strengthened, along with the logistics and storage-related sector, he said.
“The work of doubling of Katosan Road-Becharaji railway line and Viramgam-Samakhayali track which has been done here will also strengthen connectivity”, he added.
The inaugurated projects include doubling of the Viramgam-Samakhiali rail line; and the Katosan Road-Bechraji Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL Siding) Rail Project.
