Textile traders in the biggest hub of manmade fibre textiles in India – Surat are euphoric over the increase in demand for textile fabrics from across India in recent days. Traders across India are placing advance orders in time for the upcoming festive season.

Usually the festive season begins from July, beginning from Rakshabandhan, Janmashtami, Durga Puja, Navratri and Diwali. The marriage season beginning from November too adds to the sales figures during the year.

Around 40 percent of the Surat textile trade in a year comes in this period, which is catered to by around 55,000 textile traders spread over 140 textile markets in the city.

“Everybody is focusing on the upcoming festive season. The festival time and the marriage season are very good for our textile sector. The business gets a boost during this season,” said, Devkishan Manghani, President - Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOST¬TA).

He told fibre2fashion, “The upcoming Durga Puja brings a lot of hope to us that the sales will increase, and then it will be time for Diwali and later during November-December, the marriage season begins, which is also very good for our business”.

He added, “The average sales of the Surat textile market is around Rs 1 billion per day. This figure reaches close to around Rs 1.25 billion per day during the festive season, which is above the average sales figures”.
