Shiling boasts to be major leather industrial town

In China (Shiling) Leather Goods Festival held last month, is one of the major activities of the region for leather goods. A Government source said that this prosperous but little town is gradually becoming a centre for leather goods and materials to serve the entire country.
There are over 5300 leather enterprises in Shiling town, with a yearly output of over 400 million pieces, accounting for one third of the whole Chinese output. The Leather City houses around 70,000 workers. It attracts millions of buyers across the world every year, including Hong Kong, Korea, Italy and Spain.
Statistics show that over 50 percent leather goods in the low and middle-grades markets of Europe are imported from here, making it one of the biggest leather goods' production bases and marketplace of the raw materials of leather goods in China.
More and more Chinese leather goods enterprises have begun to set up their production as well as retail points in Shiling town, including Aokang Group, which has become the leather goods' supplier of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
