Polyester output & cotton imports up for August

Chinese Customs authorities revealed that polyester output for August on year to year basis rose 16.30 percent.

At 16.30 percent, the polyester production went up to 1.37 million tons.

However, this was down 2 percent from July, this year.

Key polyster production areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang accounted for 959,500 tons, that is 70 percent of country's output.

Jiangsu alone contributed 423,700 tons, shooting up 21.19 percent from previous year's output, while Zhejiang's production rose 24.87 percent to 555,800 tons.

Customs put out figures indicating that cotton imports have been rising showing rise in its popularity among local fabric makers.

Mill purchase pattern reveals over one half of the spinners used imported cotton last year.

Among them, over 30 percent confirmed usage of a foreign cotton share to the tune of 30 percent and above in operation.
Rest, 9 percent stated usage between 10-30 percent, and 27 percent said usage was below 10 percent.

However, 46 percent of spinners contended that they never used imported cotton.

Also, 27 percent spinners in the sample audience said they purchased large volume of imported cotton, with 46 percent were considering to purchase imported cotton.

But, only 27 percent totally rejected the idea of purchasing imported cotton.

Thus, the survey concludes that compared to last year a strong demand for imported cotton exist, said the release.

64 percent of the mills, on the other hand, did not change their offering levels indicating that textile firmed recently.

Mills with marginally higher yarn stock exceeded those reporting a less stock. Cotton fabric stocks at 11 percent of mills appeared considerably low, 22 percent appeared to reduced marginally, while almost half mills' fabric stock remained stagnant.
