Indo-US bilateral trade soars in Jan-Feb

A phenomenal 50.9 percent growth in US exports to India was registered during Jan-Feb 2005 compared the corresponding period
in 2004.

The figures indicate that teh rate of exports growth from US to India was much higher than Indian exports to the US.

India's exports to the US grew at a rate of 18.3 percent during the period Jan-Feb 2005 compared to the corresponding period in 2004. The bilateral trade between India and the US continued to grow and registered a growth of 26.1 per cent during the period Jan-Feb 2005 compared to the corresponding period in 2004.

The total bilateral trade during this period was US $3.8 billion.

Currently, India is ranked 22nd in terms of value of exports by the US exports, that is two positions up over the previous period and year and ranked 18th in terms of value among the countries that
the US imports from during the year 2004.

However, there is still no significant diversification in the trade basket.

Major commodities exported to the US were precious stones & metals, apparels and textile articles, organic chemicals, electrical machinery and steel.

Indian imports from from the US were machinery including electrical machinery, precious stonesnes, organic chemicals, medical instruments and aircrafts.
