According to the customs statistics, pure benzene import volume of China has reached 15,132 tons in July 2007, an increase of 27.04 percent compared to the previous month. However, it remained 24.27 percent below than that in the same period last year.
The import value for this organic chemical compound amounted to US $16.524 million, being averaged at $1,092 per ton.
China has always been facing a shortage of benzene. The country has to rely on imports to meet its domestic demand. Korea provides about 75 percent of total imports, with the rest coming mainly from Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
