Fashion industry youth get chance to use Gerber's AccuMark

Over the past several weeks, nearly 5,000 fashion design students from 30 universities across Mexico have put their fashion design, pattern design and marker making skills to the test in a multi-phased competition organized by Gerber Technology and sponsored by many national and international companies.
The contests assessed technical marker-making skills and overall fashion illustration talent using Gerber's AccuMark pattern design, grading and marker making software. Students competed against one another and against Gerber's AccuNest, automated nesting software.
The competition also included a round called “Mine, mine and only mine” presented by Levi's, in which students took a typical garment and transformed it into a unique fashion design. The final event saw students testing their skills to design an haute couture bridal gown.
Jorge de Leon, manager of Gerber Technology's Mexico operations, said, “The success of Mexico's apparel industry is founded on the strength of its educational institutions. Winners were awarded on Sept. 29 following presentations by designer Guillermo Leon, fashion analyst Anna Fusoni, Levi's senior manager César Mauricio Uribe, and Fashion Information Center director Peñoles Mónica Benitez. A prestigious list of sponsors contributed prizes including VIP passes to professional runway events, netbooks, mobile technology devices, sewing machines, designer garments and accessories.
