Avery Dennison names building after former CEO

Avery Dennison Corporation announced that it has named its group headquarters building in Mentor, Ohio after H. Russell Smith, the Company's second chief executive officer from 1956 to 1964.
The new facility, which opened last year, includes a state-of-the-art research lab and a high-speed coater for developing new products and processes for its Roll Materials' global business.
"It is highly fitting that we name this new facility in Russ' honor," said Dean A. Scarborough, president and chief executive. "This new complex exemplifies many of the values that Russ stood for during his long, distinguished career at Avery Dennison -- excellence, high quality, teamwork and a long-term commitment to the community."
Smith, who continues to serve as director emeritus of Avery Dennison, joined the firm in 1946 at the invitation of founder, R. Stanton Avery, and was instrumental in laying the groundwork for turning the Company into a global operation. Early in his career, Smith played a major role in establishing a division to supply self-adhesive base materials to other label manufacturers and headquartering it in his native Ohio.
In addition to the naming of the new group headquarters building, Scarborough also announced the creation of the H. Russell Smith Volunteerism Award, which acknowledges Smith's commitment to community services. The awards will be given to five selected employee-volunteers and will entitle each employee to choose a non-profitcommunity organization for a $5,000 grant from the Avery Dennison Foundation.
