Mar '09
An individual stands in front of a scanner. The scanner captures the image of the person within seconds and spots his body measurements. These measurements are used in customization of apparels.

Here the customer's measurements are taken three dimensionally through the digitized image on the computer screen. This way he can choose a garment with the best fitting, and according to this choice.

3D Body scanning:
Various methods are used for scanning the human body. Data thus collected provides real time information to the apparel industry wherein clothes can be manufactured with labels attached, mentioning the bust, waist and hip sizes thereby guiding the consumers to select clothing with a perfect fit.

Virtual try on software:
Virtual try on solutions are also available to the consumers wherein a virtual image is shown of the screen showing the consumer; how they would appear wearing a particular garment.

Software in the computer captures consumers' the image and displays various types of garments on the screen. The consumer can select an apparel according to his choice and try it on 'his virtual image' seen on the screen.

This technology has the potential to inculcate positive changes in the apparel industry. Optimum utilization of the technology will create a drastic change in the business paradigm.
