Invengo Technology Corp announced the launch of two new 70*19mm ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID inlays. Designed so that they may be used as a stick on label, or encapsulated inside an apparel hang tag, the inlays can be used to track item level retail goods.

Operating at a frequency of 840-960 MHz, one inlay incorporates Impinj Monza 4 chip technology while the other uses the NXP UCODE G2iL chip. Both inlays offer high sensitivity and are especially strong in retail applications such as denim and basics, where stacking goods in close proximity is required.

The RFID inlays have already undergone stringent testing on stacks of up to 15 pairs of denim and perform as well if not better than previous inlay designs of a longer dimension.

The inlays will now undergo independent tests through the Arkansas Radio Compliance (ARC) center, at the University of Arkansas RFID Research Center. The purpose of the ARC center is to ensure that Retail Suppliers are able to deliver RFID tagged products to Retailers that meet or exceed the levels of performance necessary to provide benefit to both the Retailer and the Retail Supplier in a consistent and cost-effective manner.

“Invengo has done a lot of research on the requirements and performance criteria that are needed on RFID labels and tags that will be applied to item level goods,” said Philip Calderbank, Invengo's VP Sales & Marketing, America and Europe.

“A key challenge came when we were asked to demonstrate a read from a tag which was in the middle of a stack of 15 pairs of denim jeans. Our design engineers did not see this as possible until we had the release of the NXP UCODE G2iL and the Impinj Monza 4 chips.

“These chips offer a huge step in sensitivity and work to levels of -18dBm. Consider that the industry was working to a maximum of -15dBm just two years ago; now a -3dBm increase means that only half the power is needed to activate the chip. Each chip offers its own unique properties and by offering two inlay designs, Invengo will enable label converters and TRIMS suppliers to choose the inlay that most suits their customer applications. We believe that Invengo is first to offer this important RFID inlay with two chip options.”

In addition to increased sensitivity the Invengo labels and inlays will also offer versions that come with increased memory, lock down 'privacy controls' and 3D orientation.
