SATRA recently held a one-day seminar for the furniture industry focusing on flammability training for seating, upholstery and beds, which proved particularly popular amongst retailers and furniture manufacturers.
Exploring the flammability guidelines for the domestic and contract furniture markets, this seminar aimed to provide delegates with a better understanding fire properties, the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations and what the requirements are for furniture and its materials (e.g covers, interliners, foams and other fillings).
Also provided was an overview of how SATRA tests furniture to comply with the flammability guidelines, complete with demonstrations.
The seminar also discussed mattresses and how they relate to the General Product Safety Regulations, and the responsibilities of companies in the supply chain such as retailers and importers.
Colin Buick of Mollio Ltd described the course as excellent. He said: “The course gave me a clearer understanding of the requirements and the part about domestic furniture regulations was particularly relevant to me. I would recommend it.”
