Organizers of New Zealand's Fashion Week (NZFW) have no intention of joining the fashion industries of other countries in laying down ground rules for models' health.
At many Italian, Spanish, American and British shows a healthy criteria was set to ensure well-being of the runway models. Models who were identified as too-thin were not allowed to participate.
However, Pieter Stewart, Managing Director, NZFW, said at a press conference, "I see it as the responsibility of the individual designers who they employ as models. However they [the designers] and I would definitely endorse any initiative that promotes and supports the health and welfare of models.”
Many experts believe that models, here, are much bigger than that in other countries.
Stewart also added, "International guests have commented that our models are actually heavier than those around the world. We don't have a problem of underweight models."
