Australian Wool Innovation Limited informed that the Australian Wool Market again finished the week on a positive note with prices 2.7 percent higher, on average, at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle, making a total upward movement of 11.7 percent since the resumption of sales in January.
The AWEX EMI increased by 13¢ (+1.9 percent), ending the week at 704¢/kg clean. This reflected increases of 16¢ (+2.3 percent) in the North and 9¢ (+1.3 percent) in the South, with their corresponding Regional Indicators finishing the week at 718¢ and 690¢ clean respectively.
The sale in Fremantle saw the Western Indicator increase by 30¢ (+4.6 percent) after a two week break, finishing the week at 679¢/kg clean.
The EMI has now risen by 71¢ over the last four weeks and it was the first week in which it had closed above 700¢ since Week 6 in August last year.
61,030 bales were on offer (compared with 34,084 last week), of which 8.4 percent were passed in, comprised of 6.1 percent in Sydney, 6.5 percent in Melbourne and 12.1 percent in Fremantle.
Pass-in rates for Merino fleece and skirtings were 9.3 percent and 5.3 percent respectively. 2,138 bales (3.4 percent) were withdrawn prior to sale and re-offered wools made up 17.3 percent of this week's offering.
On a daily basis, the AWEX EMI increased by 1¢ on Tuesday, by a further 7¢ on Wednesday and by 5¢ on Thursday. The Western Indicator rose by 24¢ on Wednesday after last week's break in sales and by a further 6¢ yesterday.
The sales opened on a firm note in the South on Tuesday with small gains being made at the fine end in a lower quality offering.
Further strong gains were seen in the North and the West on Thursday, while there were more moderate changes in the South. Demands for skirtings strengthen during the week, especially for the low VM types.
