Customers and animal rights campaigners' pressure tend Selfridges & Co. to stop selling fur items. The company will no more sell products like fur-trimmed gloves and clothing in all four of its stores.

Selfridges informed that the ban was a response to customer demand. The store has shut down its fur division in 1993, however it continued to sell item such as gloves and coats.

Campaigns Director of Respect for Animals, Mark Glover explained, action is a result of demonstrations that is done outside Selfridges' London store by independent protest groups.

Mr Glover stated: “Selfridges deserves massive credit for this sympathetic and responsible decision. “The fur trade is cruel and unnecessary and responsible for the deaths of some 40 million animals every year,” he added.

Glover opines that they would like if 'Harrods' follows Selfridges' decision.

Selfridge's board has taken this decision due to customer feedback and a decreased demand for fur-related products.”

A Harrods spokesman responded that the store will not order to its customers what lawful purchases they may or may not make. “Harrods says that it is up to the customer to make his or her own decisions whether to buy fur item or not, based on their own philosophy and beliefs.”
