Local designer bags prestigious Bronze Award at Niamey

Latif Madoi Kasumba, a local fashion designer from Uganda won the Bronze award on November 23 in Niger capital Niamey. He received a sum of US $2,000 as well a contract for designing in France for a month.
The event that awarded Kasumba took place from November 19-23 during which he displayed a variety of his collection mainly hip urban wear including leather jackets, cat suits, tracksuits, denim caps, leather boots and sneakers as well as polo t-shirts and vests.
Latif stood third after Sandra Cardosso Muendane of Mozambique and Mohamed Osman of Ethiopia. In order to be declared a winner Latif had to showcase a series of 10 outfits. Moreover, the show saw participation by 10 other contestants from countries like Ghana, Morocco, Niger and Cameroon.
The Bronze award has motivated Latif to come up with his own label-Unmistalabo. As a matter of fact, Kasumba has designed an animal skin outfit for Ronald Mayinja who wore it on the night he was crowned artiste of the year at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards gala.
