Marginal increase in cotton yarn import recorded for 2005

Canada has shipped over $6 billion worth of fibres, yarns, fabrics and textile articles (excluding clothing) in 2004. The industry accounts for 1.3 percent of total manufacturing industry shipments. Combined clothing and textile industry stood at CA $12.9 billion in 2004. Yet, Canada's yarn import trend has continued to remain sluggish since last three years.
Cotton yarn import by Canada for the year 2005 registered a marginal increase of just 1.2 percent with an import value of $96.67 million.
Imports from the US went up 31.9 percent with value of goods reaching to $56.4 million, making US the top importer for Canada.
India conceded its place as a leading yarn importer for Canada to Pakistan as imports from India slid to 37.7 percent against a rise of 24.5 percent registered by Pakistan.
