Yarn output in 2006 soared to new highs. The national yarn output reached to 17.4 million tons, representing an increase of 20 percent and fabric production stood at 55 billion meters, a rise of 13.5 percent over the previous year.
Chemical fiber yield was 20.255 million tons, representing a growth of 21.7 percent from a year ago, according to the State Statistics Bureau.
China's textile and garment exports continued to rise in January, but growth rate declined from the previous month.
According to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs, in January 2007, China's textile and apparel exports amounted to US $12.14 billion, a decreasing 9.1 percent compared with last December, but an increase of 18.6 percent over the same period of the previous year.
Cotton yarn export was 43,200 tons, down 5.14 percent from last month, but up 52.31 percent over the same period of the previous year.
