It is learned from Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles that China's yarn imports totaled to US $4.5 billion in 2006, a growth of 7.4 percent. While cotton yarn imports accounted for $2 billion, an increase of 18 percent, chemical fiber yarn scored $2.09 billion, a decrease of 0.11 percent.

The cotton yarn imports from Indonesia dropped by 17 percent. Imports from the rest four major markets increased by 30 percent, 18 percent, 14 percent, and 13.94 percent, respectively.

The main sources of chemical fiber yarn were Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and the US. The imports of chemical fiber yarn from Indonesia in 2006 grew faster, at 21 percent, amounting to $55 million,

Chemical fiber yarn imports from South Korea decreased 18 percent, to $254 million. Taiwan was the largest source of China's imports of chemical fiber yarn, accounting for 38 percent of the total imports. Import amount registered $789 million, but the growth rate was lower, at 0.23 percent.
