The Bargaining Council for the Clothing Manufacturing Industry of South Africa is significantly ramping up domestic fabric face mask manufacturing capacity tn response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for all South Africans to wear face masks to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The target is to manufacture 100 million fabric face masks per month.

By April 24, the council had registered 141 clothing and textile manufacturing companies, with a combined fabric face mask manufacturing capacity of 9.1 million per week, according to a press release from the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU).

Each such company has been issued with an official clothing bargaining council accreditation certificate.
