At the end of a six-month training programme in dress-making, 120 persons, including five males, were presented with sewing machines, as a part of the Ghanaian National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).
The beneficiaries underwent training in the Youth in Trade and Vocations Module under the NYEP. They were chosen from three constituencies of the Tema Metropolis – Tema East, Tema West, and Kpone-Katamanso.
The Ghanaian Government has invested in the NYEP as a measure to reduce rural-urban migration within the country. The programme aims to impart employable skills to the nation's youth to make them self-reliant.
The youth who acquire skills under the NYEP are expected to further disseminate those skills among the unemployed youth, thus reducing social vices.
The training in dress-making was the first training programme undertaken by the NYEP, and a second programme is scheduled to begin in end-July.
