Retail firm Trent posts impressive Q1 profit

Trent Ltd, the retail operations company of the Tata Group has posted an impressive 27.87 percent increase in its net profit during the first quarter of fiscal 2011-12.

The net profit of the company, which runs Westside chain of lifestyle retail stores, during the period rose to Rs 102.3 million, as against Rs 80 million achieved during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Net sales of the company during the April-June period amounted to Rs 1.79 billion compared to Rs 1.53 billion registered during the same period in 2010-11, showing a year-on-year rise of 16.85 percent.

The company said that the 10 percent excise duty levied by the Government on branded apparels has affected its performance during the quarter which ended on June 30, 2011.

Three new Westside outlets and one new Fashion Yatra store, a complete family fashion store, were opened during the period.

Currently, Trent Ltd has a total of 69 outlets including 57 Westside stores.
