Philippines garment industry has once again started gathering momentum as increasing number of buyers are now procuring their garment requirements from the Philippines, mainly in view of the quality of products, Executive Director of the Garments and Textile Industry Development Office (GTIDO), Ms. Thelma Dumpit-Murillo has said.
She even briefed the participants attending the Free Trade Area (FTA) information campaign regarding the Philippine FTAs.
The campaign organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) drew participation of about 100 entrepreneurs, government officials, exporters, prospective exporters, professors from local colleges and other concerned persons.
Bureau of Export Trade Promotion (BETP) Assistant Director, Jason T. Lao, who served as a resource speaker on the Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP), said FTA affords the exporters an opportunity to carry on their businesses in free trade areas while paying zero or nominal tariffs.
He informed that the FTA information campaign is intended at raising general awareness regarding the FTAs with partner-countries, as presently the benefits of the agreements are being utilized by very few exporters.
