El Salvadorian shipments of textile and clothing to its northern neighbour – US are expected to rise above 10 percent over 2010.

This was revealed by Executive Director of Chamber of the Textile, Clothing and Free Zones in El Salvador (CAMTEX), Patricia Figueroa.

Garment shipments to the US touched $1.26 billion in the first nine months of 2011 and are expected to exceed $1.56 billion mark by year-end.

However, compared to August, when apparel shipments stood at $145.6 million, they fell to $134.15 in September, which Patricia called a cyclical situation, which happens every year.

The garment sector in El Salvador employs around 75,000 people and in 2011 alone, created 2,500 new employment opportunities.
