After successfully keeping in business for nearly 100 years, Fletcher Jones, Australia's iconic apparel retailing firm, which failed to sustain the recent slump in sales, has been placed under administration.
Employees and workers at over 40 Fletcher Jones outlets have been informed about the firm's slipping into administration. However, the firm's outlets would be kept open until its position is assessed.
As stated by the Australian Retailers Association (ARA), Fletcher Jones was the latest addition to the big list of leading brands that failed to sustain in the midst of dismal sales and untenable costs.
Fletcher Jones occupies a significant place in Australia's apparel manufacturing and retailing history.
Fletcher Jones started supplying custom made garments to people in areas around western Victorian region from a horse-drawn wagon. But by 1924, it no longer remained possible for him to meet the rising demand backed by his reputation for supplying quality tailoring, and this persuaded him to start shops in Victoria and other places in Australia on his own name.
