On Wednesday, March 7th, 2012, the United States Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) will host two special events on the Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA). With the FTA scheduled to go into effect on March 15th, these events will help textile and apparel importers, suppliers, and service providers understand the stipulations of the agreement and prepare to take advantage of the duty-free benefits.

From 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, USA-ITA Customs Counsel John Pellegrini and USA-ITA President Julia K. Hughes will host an in-person seminar at the offices of McGuireWoods LLP in New York City. This small-group discussion will provide an in-depth overview and the opportunity to ask detailed questions.

From 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM EST, John Pellegrini and USA-ITA Washington Counsel David Spooner will host a one-hour webinar. The webinar will also include an update from U.S. Customs & Border Protection, including John Leonard, Director of Textile Enforcement; Jackie Sprungle, Chief of the Textile Policy Branch; and Natalie Hanson, International Trade Specialist with the Textile Policy Branch. This webinar will provide the opportunity for importers, suppliers, and service providers worldwide to understand the agreement from both the private sector and government perspectives.

“The Korea Free Trade Agreement is an exciting opportunity for textile and apparel brands, retailers, and importers,” says Julia K. Hughes, President of USA-ITA. “With the implementation date fast approaching, it's critical that importers are up-to-speed on the content of the agreement so they can utilize it in their sourcing plans.”

The United States Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) was established in January 1989 by nine companies with a vision to create a unified voice for textile and apparel importers across the country. USA-ITA provides education, information, and advocacy to executives active in textile and apparel sourcing, importing, compliance, and logistics. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., USA-ITA represents the needs of American retailers, brands and importers, as well as related service providers, with the objective to remove barriers to business and to trade.
