New apparel manufacturing unit to come up in Karnataka

The Karnataka government has signed an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the Coimbatore-based Aravind Apparels for setting up a Rs. 50 crore garment production factory in Sullia taluk of the Dakshina Kannada district of the state.
The agreement was signed by Aravind Apparels Managing Director MP Aravind and SG Hegde, Joint Director of District Industries Centre (DIC).
Dr. DS Vishwanath, Managing Director, Karnataka State Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (KSSSIDC), said the state government has identified six towns and cities for the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) – Bangalore, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Hubli, Mangalore and Mysore.
He said MSMEs account for about 45 percent of total manufacturing in the country. He added that about 40 percent of all exports from India are from MSMEs, which provide employment to over 60 million people.
