The European Union turned out to be the only market among China’s major export destinations that witnessed a double-digit drop in its clothing exports during the first half of the current year.

China’s exports of clothing to the EU declined both in terms of volume and value during the January-June period.

Exports of knitted and woven garments from China to the EU decreased by 14.8 percent year-on-year and the average export price fell by 0.8 percent y-o-y.

According to EU statistics, EU imported a total of US$ 44.83 billion worth of textiles and apparels during January to April this year, showing a decline of 9.7 percent year-on-year. Of these, the imports from China were worth US$ 16.83 billion, a fall of 11.6 percent year-on-year.

The share of Chinese apparels in the EU market dropped by 1.7 percent year-on-year, during the initial four months of 2012, as per EU statistics.
