Moroccan firms to partake in Spanish B2B textile event

Apparel and textile firms belonging to the Moroccan Association of Textile and Apparel (AMITH) would be participating at the Spanish business to business (B2B) textile event, scheduled to be held on November 6 and 7, 2013, in the city of Madrid, in order to seek new business opportunities.

The purpose of participating in the event is to present the current potential of Morocco as a producer of fashion, as well as assess the synergies and opportunities for collaboration between apparel firms of the two countries.

Nearly seven Moroccan apparel and textile firms would be presenting their finished products at the two-day event. The participating firms also include textile manufacturing companies specializing in different modalities for high-end brands, as well as medium and large retailers.

Morocco is one of the major destinations of apparel and textile exports from Spain. In the period between January and July 2013, the Spanish apparel and textile exports to Morocco stood at €457.1 million, which is an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the same period in 2012.

Meanwhile, Spain imported textile and apparel goods worth €763 million from Morocco, indicating a jump of 22.1 percent year-on-year, during the first seven months of 2013.

The AMITH founded in 1960 represents the Moroccan textile and apparel sector. More than 1,600 companies operating in the textile and clothing sector of Morocco, which account for providing 80 percent of employment in the sector, come under the AMITH.

The AMITH plays a leading role in the promotion and development of the textile and clothing industry of Morocco, by initiating various projects for boosting the sector in collaboration with the Moroccan Government.
