Walmart registers new company in India; new CEO takes over

Global retail giant Walmart has registered a new company called ‘Walmart India Pvt. Ltd.’, according to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
 
The US retail major had earlier ended its six-year long partnership with Bharti Enterprises, and is now preparing to enter India’s multi-brand retail sector with a new partner.
 
Meanwhile, Krish Iyer has taken over as new president and CEO of Walmart India, with effect from January 20, 2014.
 
Originally from Mumbai, India, Mr. Iyer joined Walmart International as a senior vice president in 2012. Prior to coming to Walmart, he spent six years with A.S. Watson Group, a leading international health, beauty and lifestyle retailer, serving as managing director in Thailand, Taiwan and the Philippines, regional business development director and regional director over store design and development for Asia and Eastern Europe. Before that, Iyer was managing director and CEO at Piramyd Retail Limited. 
 
Mr. Iyer received a Bachelors of Science (Hons) degree in Commerce and Economics from the University of Mumbai in India. He is an Associate Chartered Accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.  He is also an Associate member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
