The Government policy of the South American country of Chile is helping the entry of second-hand clothing into Bolivia, said the president of the National Customs of Bolivia (ANB), Marlene Ardaya.

According to the ANB official, Chile’s policy authorizes entry of used products and through its borders they are being shipped into the neighboring country of Bolivia, reports Bolivian news agency anbolivia.

Ms. Ardaya also proposed that the Government should negotiate with Chilean authorities in order to ban the entry of second-hand clothing into Bolivia, especially through the borders.

The ANB official informed that during last year, the Customs Operational Control (COA) of ANB, managed to seize 27,985 items of used apparel that were trying to enter Bolivia through its borders.

Ms. Ardaya said that it was necessary that the Governments of the two countries discussed the issue in order to stop the import of these items in Chile to prevent them from being shipped further to Bolivia.
