'Blues' in Classic fashion

As the Wizard Blues head for a classic Origin decider in 2008, plans are already underway to revive a Classic look in the years ahead.

Iconic Australian sporting brand Classic Sportswear will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2009 as the official jersey supplier for the NSWRL. The appointment announced this week will see Classic add the official on-field jersey to its existing range of Blues supporter jerseys.

“Classic is a name that is known throughout Rugby League and they have certainly shown their faith in the ongoing appeal of the historic Blues jumper,” NRL Director of Marketing and Commercial, Mr Paul Kind, said.

“The enthusiasm for Origin football is such that we need to maintain the highest standards in terms of jersey production and that is a challenge that Classic is well prepared to meet.”

Classic's Director Tony Magnus said that his company was delighted to again take pride of place on the playing jersey.

“It's been a ten year hiatus for us in terms of the on-field jumper but Origin has remained close to our hearts.

“We are looking forward to being able to bring a unique NSW flavor to our premier State team in Rugby League.

“During the past decade, Classic Sportswear has continued to supply supporter apparel and the move is a bit like coming back off the bench to join the starting line-up.”

Classic has always worked to be at the cutting edge of the sporting apparel market but the advances over the last few years have seen the company confirm its premier position in Australia despite a number of overseas challengers.

Classic Sportswear has a rare ability to mix its own Australian printing, knitting, manufacturing and enhancement skills with the latest in overseas trends and technology.
“Our commitment to Rugby League has seen the company grow into new state of the art premises and has created employment opportunities for additional designers, patternmakers, a sourcing & logistics specialist, account managers, accounting staff – even builders,” Mr Magnus said.

“The Blues on-field jersey joins a range that extends to the Blues Supporter jersey, the NRL supporter range, the NRL Mascot apparel, the Rugby League World Cup '08 and hundreds of grass-roots Rugby League teams.

“Classic is an Australian company that prides itself on being an active part of the community while also competing against major international brands.”

Classic's Blues authentic range will be available in time for Christmas 2008 from all major sporting retailers.
