2009 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market will take place at Deer Valley Room, Downtown Marriott Hotel, Salt Lake City, Utah during January 22-Jan 23, 2009.

It's no secret the current economic climate and the upcoming winter months are of great concern for many retailers across the country. Some are reacting by reducing their inventories, tightening their belts and making tough business decisions. If winter brings cold weather across the country, apparel and equipment will certainly move off the shelves.

If not, it could be a challenging season. Some retailers are planning to be 10% to 15% down this season while others argue that planning to be down creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), in conjunction with sponsor Smartwool, will present two seminars at the 2009 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah to provide retailers with insight on how smart business decisions during turbulent times can produce positive results.

On Thursday, January 22 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., seminar attendees of Growing the Size of Your Business No Matter What the Economic Conditions will discover five ways to grow their business and three over-arching changes that owners and managers need to commit to.

During Inventory Management: The Process Is More Important Then the Technology, on Friday, January 23, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., attendees of will learn that, at the end of the day, it's not the computers or software, but store process, policies, procedures and management that make for great, more profitable inventory management and will explore the eleven retail store functions that are tied into a bigger and more complete store process.
