Coast Mountain Sports, a corporate banner of The Forzani Group Ltd. Canada's largest retailer of sporting goods is proud to unveil its new store design and overall store branding to coincide with the opening of three new stores. The new design concept debuted last month with a new, larger flagship store in Kitsilano, British Columbia (1625 Chestnut Street). The second store to receive the new design treatment will open November 26th in Edmonton, Alberta at South Edmonton Common (1612-99 Street NW). In mid-December, Pacific Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia (777 Dunsmuir Street) will follow suit.

The design update focuses on conveying a South West Coast influence by utilizing natural finishes with wood, grains and plants. The use of earthy attributes like stones and pebbles, raw concrete with epoxy finish, wood valencing, planking floor material and cedar fixtures added with the contemporary colour scheme modernizes the brand image. The complementary textures and colour palette further create a relaxing environment that lends itself to the premium quality of the Coast Mountain Sports product line.

New graphic panels capture Coast Mountain Sports' outdoor rugged appeal while showcasing its top brands: The North Face, Columbia and Arc'teryx. The store layout has been improved to allow customers to experience a 'trail walk' around the store which facilitates a great view of each brand shop and department highlighted with wooden park-like signs to amplify the outdoor experience.

Designed together with Parchoma & Jones Design Inc. of Calgary and The Forzani Group Ltd. construction team, the new concept translates quality and reinforces the Coast Mountain Sports brand image as a cut above the rest. In addition, high energy efficient lighting was implemented, maintaining the standard met by the majority of The Forzani Group's corporate banners. "Our goal was to craft a store design that creates an experience and ambience that calls out to a particular shopper that says that we know who you really are and what you really want," said Chris Kleine, Manager of Construction at The Forzani Group Ltd.

"This new store design ensures that we have the contemporary identity and curb appeal necessary to cut through the clutter in the outdoor space, draw customers into the Coast Mountain Sports fold and keep us top of mind with our customers," said Lorissa Dong, Marketing & Communications Manager for The Forzani Group Ltd.

Coast Mountain Sports opened its first store in Kitsilano on July 4th, 1980. Acquired in June 2000, the banner consisted of five stores, typically 6,000 square feet in size. Today there are 22 stores located in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Halifax ranging in size up to 25,000 square feet.
