Buff Thermo Cool winner of Huairasinchi

21st to 23rd February: The 7th edition of the adventure race in Ecuador Huairasinchi ended with the great success of the Buff Thermo Cool Team who completed the race of 332 km within 48 hours making the 1st place.

More than an adventure race, Huairasinchi allows the participants to discover concealed places of Ecuador, its nature, its people, and its history, passing from the beautiful landscapes and discovering volcanoes, rivers and waterfalls, starting the race in Tungurahua, to Chimborazo, Bolívar and ending at “Los Ríos”.

The activities of the competition in Ecuador were Orienteering, Mountain Biking, Trekking, Paddling and Fixed Ropes grouped in teams of four people. The total distance was around 332 km, comprehending trekking of approx. 97 km, mountain biking of 205 km, ropes of 0,3 km and paddling of 30km.

Team Members Benjamin Midena, Shane Sigle, Nerea Martínez and Fran Costoya were facing extreme challenges in altitudes of a maximum of more than 4400 meters (whereas the minimum altitude was 33 meters), fighting against very cold and rainy weather conditions, snow in high mountain passes and hot and humid weather in the lower regions.

Thirty-two national teams and eight international teams were participating in Huairasinchi´s 7th edition; Buff Thermo Cool Team was part of the elite team. Being the winner, they classified themselves for the Adventure Race World Championship that will be in Portugal in December 2009.

The team commented: “The changes in the temperature and altitudes during the race were extreme but we are very happy that we were able to manage it and keep our energies until the end of the race. We fell in love with the country and the nature and would like to come again for rafting, kayak, trekking without having the time pressure.”

As Buff Thermo Cool the Raid Team has started successfully in 2009 and will be continuing competing in several important and challenging races. With the new collection of Thermo Cool the team is equipped with multifunctional garments, which is adapting to their needs, providing evaporative cooling or hermo-buffering functions as needed in such demanding and exhausting competitions.

Born from the experiences and years of study on human thermoregulation from the privileged platform of profiled cross section products Thermo Cool consists of a unique blend of fibres inside the yarns that interacts with the user of the garment. This hybrid fibre mix provides a dual functionality: When the user is hot and perspiring, the fabric provides evaporative cooling, keeping the user cool and comfortable.

When the user is cold and shivering, the fabric reduces the exposure impact with external temperatures, keeping the user warm and thermo regulated; hence the garments help to keep the body temperature at a comfortable temperature whatever are the outside temperature or physical intensity of the exercise. For consumers concerned about the environment, Thermo Cool is also available in an ECO version that uses a polymer made from renewable resources, such as corn, instead of traditional petrochemical derivates.
