Pakistan is seeing exports from its textile and garments sliding down since the economic crisis unfolded in the third quarter of 2008. Exports of clothing and apparels have tumbled by nearly 13 percent in the first nine months of the current fiscal (July-June).
Exports of garments which stood at US $1.05 billion in the first nine months of the previous fiscal slithered down to $919.22 million in the same period of the current fiscal. Exports of clothing in March witnessed a decline of 18.46 percent y-o-y.
Experts attribute this fall to the slowdown in the global markets, but at the same time add by saying that the rampant problem of shortage of electricity and gas, has contributed no less to the fall in exports from the sector.
