Vintage clothing trendsetter opens new online store

After selling for a few years on eBay, which we still do, The Factory Vintage, is pleased to announce the opening of its virtual doors with a new name, LA Vintage, and its own online vintage fashion store. But furnishing discerning buyers with unique, chic and affordable vintage clothing and accessories isn't LA Vintage's only mission - the company also has a very green thumb and a social conscience.

LA Vintage began in 1992, when the owner, Murtaza Haji, visited Los Angeles and fell in love with the city. Opening a small trading office in Torrance, California, just outside of LA, Mr. H. began brokering container loads of second hand clothing and selling it to various countries in Africa, Mexico and around the world.

Four years later, he established Samiyatex, a wholesale retailer of used clothing, also known as a 'rag house,' in Los Angeles. Today, Samiyatex processes more than a million pounds of clothing and 400,000 pounds of shoes every month.

From this enormous amount of merchandise, our young, energetic and fashion-conscious team members hand pick only the best, one-of-a-kind, vintage clothing and accessory jewels that are unique in their quality of fabric, construction, stitching, color and style to be sold online at LA Vintage.

Although vintage clothing represents less than 1% of all the clothing we process, it's worth the hunt as millions of people around the world want something special and unique to wear.

Prior to selling online, we sold these one-of-a-kind vintage clothing and accessory pieces through vintage shops in trendy areas like Hollywood's cutting-edge Melrose district. In 2008, we opened our own Ebay store to make our products available to a wider clientele and pass on the cost of the middle man as savings to our customers. These fashionable items are also now available at the online LA Vintage store.

But LA Vintage does more than just sell fashionable vintage clothing and accessories online. In addition to being a fully integrated recycling company that diverts more than twelve million pounds of clothing and an additional five million pounds of shoes from landfills every year, we also touch the lives of people in developing countries around the world who would otherwise go without. And provide jobs for the locals who sell these goods.

It is estimated that every year more than a million tons of textiles are simply thrown away into landfills. Unwanted dresses, jeans, skirts, and bags find their way from cozy closets and attics to cold, forgotten landfills. And although more than half are recyclable, usually less than 20% are rescued.

So when adding our chic vintage clothing and accessories to your wardrobe, remember that LA Vintage isn't just about making you look good with vintage fashion - you're also helping the environment and people around the world.
