PETA member in a bikini protests glue traps

Wearing a polka-dotted bikini and "Minnie Mouse" ears and lying in a giant "glue trap," a PETA member will confront customers outside a Yakima Lowe's store on Wednesday to ask them not to patronize the home-improvement chain until it stops selling cruel glue traps. Joining her will be "Mickey Mouse," who will be holding a sign that reads "Lowe's: Stop Selling Cruel Glue Traps."

When: Wednesday, May 20, 12 noon
Where: Lowe's, 2500 Rudkin Rd. (at Rainier Plz.), Yakima

Glue traps are pieces of plastic or cardboard that are coated with an adhesive that is designed to ensnare any small animal who comes into contact with it. Animals who get stuck in the glue may suffer for days before dying of starvation or dehydration.

Patches of skin, fur, and feathers are ripped off the animals' bodies as they struggle to escape, and many animals even chew off their own legs in an effort to free themselves. Many major retailers -- including Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Albertsons, Dollar Tree, and Safeway -- refuse to sell glue traps.

"When it comes to rodent- and bird-control devices, glue traps are the cruelest," says PETA "mouse" Lindsay Rajt. "If so many of the nation's leading retailers can ban the sale of glue traps and stop the animal suffering that they cause, so can Lowe's."
