Bangladesh has created history by surpassing India in exporting garments to the US markets. Textile and apparel exports from Bangladesh have increased by 10% since 2008 onwards.
Despite global recession, textile exports have not fallen drastically as seen in the case of India. The sterling performance of Bangladesh in exporting textiles, and apparels during the recession struck economy is appreciable.
Textile exports from Bangladesh displays a buoyant performance. Knitwear and woven garment exports have increased by 41.8%, and 36.2 percent during December 2008 comparatively over the previous year's figures. Since Bangladesh exports low end textile products, their sales are least affected by the economic crisis.
Among the global countries facing a major slump due to the economic crisis of US, Bangladesh is likely to remain competitive in the global market.
